Vietnam shares the responsibility with the international community in implementing commitments reached at previous conferences of parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
This was affirmed by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, who headed the Vietnamese delegation to the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Durban , South Africa from Nov. 28-Dec. 9.

He said Vietnam supports the viewpoints of developing countries and the EU regarding the implementation of commitments and initiatives to cope with the global climate change.

He said Vietnam used the event to introduce international friends to the current impacts of climate change in Vietnam as well as its policies and plans for tackling the issue in the future.

Deputy Minister Ha said through bilateral and multilateral discussions, Vietnam hopes to help boost the progress of some common agreements and commitments, especially those related to the Kyoto Protocol and its second phases.

Vietnam coordinated with northern European countries to organise a seminar on climate change, environmental protection and finance, and held discussions with the delegations of Japan , Poland , Denmark , the US and Sweden , who all expressed their readiness to help Vietnam to build measures and action plans in climate and environment issues./.
